Dressed for the service, the party and the photographs

We design bat mitzvah dresses for girls between 12 and 14 — and the older sisters and cousins who'll inherit them. Hemlines cut for the day. Sleeves that stay where they should. Necklines cut to flatter, not to expose. Most pieces are cut to meet the dress-code expectation of the synagogue service, and every product page states its sleeve and hemline so you can check against your synagogue's expectations before you order.

What makes the cuts work

  • Hemlines for the service. The majority of our dresses sit at or below the knee — the hemline is listed on each product page.
  • Sleeves. Three-quarter, full, or considered short sleeves across most of the collection, noted on every product page.
  • Higher necklines. Designed with the synagogue's standards in mind, comfortable everywhere else.
  • Cuts that move. A dress your daughter can dance in, sit down in, photograph beautifully in.
  • Separates too. Alongside the dresses you'll find skirts, shirts and tops — a turtleneck under a flare skirt is a service outfit in its own right, and it carries her well past the day.

Materials and sizing

GOTS-certified organic cotton (certified pieces are marked on the product page), hand-block-printed cotton, and hand-embroidered pieces from skilled artisans. Plant-based throughout, hand-finished in our partner ateliers.

Bat mitzvah sizes: 140 (age 10), 152 (age 12), 164 (age 14) and 176 (age 16). Many styles also run smaller — down to size 92 (age 2), a few from 68 (6 months) — so younger sisters and cousins can dress from the same collection.

Frequently asked

What should a girl wear to a bat mitzvah?

For the service in the synagogue: a dress with sleeves (three-quarter or full), a hemline at or below the knee, and a higher neckline. Most synagogues — Reform through Orthodox — request modest dress for the service portion. For the party afterwards the code typically loosens, but our pieces are cut so the same dress works beautifully for both. One outfit, the whole day.

What is the dress code for a bat mitzvah?

Most synagogues expect dress that respects the service: shoulders covered, knees covered, no plunging necklines. Reform synagogues are often slightly more relaxed but still expect the basic standards; Orthodox and Conservative congregations are stricter. Most pieces here are cut with the stricter standard in mind — and because every product page lists sleeve and hemline, you can confirm before ordering rather than hoping.

Are these dresses suitable for both Reform and Orthodox bat mitzvahs?

The cuts work across the spectrum. Reform families tend to appreciate the contemporary silhouettes; Conservative and Orthodox families check the sleeve and hemline note on each product page and order accordingly. The same cuts suit other modest-dress traditions — and plenty of secular families simply want a beautifully made dress that's right for the occasion.

Can I wear a sleeveless dress to a bat mitzvah?

Generally no — not at the service. Most synagogues request sleeves regardless of denomination. For the after-party sleeveless can be acceptable, but a dress with sleeves works for both events.

How much do bat mitzvah dresses cost here?

Dresses in this collection run from €75 to €1,200, with most between €140 and €250. Separates — skirts, shirts and tops — start lower. Hand-embroidered and hand-painted heirloom pieces sit at the upper end.

Where do you ship, and what does it cost?

Worldwide, via DHL with tracking on every parcel. Shipping is free to Germany over €85, to the EU, UK and Switzerland over €130, to the US over $250, and to Canada over €220. Most dresses in this collection clear the European threshold on their own.
