Baby rompers: one piece, nothing to tuck in
A romper covers body and legs in one piece, so nothing rides up when a baby crawls, rolls or is lifted out of the car seat. That is the whole point of it, and why most of our baby rompers have no separate waistband at all. If you want the short-legged, hip-length version instead, those are our baby onesies and bodysuits, and in black, our black baby onesies.
Newborn rompers, sizes 50 to 62
The Organic Cotton Newborn Romper comes in off-white, anthracite and peach in sizes 56 and 62. For warm months, the Knitted Newborn Summer Romper runs from 50 to 62. Both are marked GOTS-certified on their product pages. More first-weeks pieces are in our newborn clothes.
Rompers and playsuits from 6 months to 2 years
From size 68 to 92 the rompers get bolder: stripes in pink or yellow and blue, the Pink Baby Girl Romper, the Baby Black Romper and the Yellow Romper with Treehouse Print. The playsuits in denim, linen and white are the dressier side of the same idea. For bib dungarees with shoulder straps, from baby to size 152, see our kids overalls and dungarees.
Buying a romper as a gift
Size 50 lasts a few weeks, so for a gift we'd choose 62 or 68: the baby grows into it instead of out of it. Our size guide shows how long each size usually lasts. Every piece is vegan, and every romper is made to be handed down to the next baby.
Frequently asked
What is the difference between a baby romper and a onesie?
A romper is one piece from shoulders to legs, short or long. A onesie, or bodysuit, stops at the hips and is worn under or with trousers. Rompers are the whole outfit; onesies are the base layer.
What size romper does a newborn need?
Size 56 fits most babies for the first month and 62 from about the second to the third month. Size 50 is for very small or early babies. If you're buying before the birth, 56 or 62 is the safer choice.
Are your baby rompers organic cotton?
Some of them. The Organic Cotton Newborn Romper and the other pieces marked GOTS-certified on their product pages are organic cotton covered by a Transaction Certificate. The rest are cotton, denim or linen and are described that way. We don't call anything organic that isn't certified.
Are the rompers for boys or girls?
Most are for both. The stripes come in pink and in yellow and blue, and the black, denim, linen and white rompers are worn by brothers and sisters alike.
How should I wash a baby romper?
Wash cool and inside out, and dry flat rather than on a hot tumble cycle. Each product page lists the care for that fabric. Treated like this, a romper is in good enough shape to be handed down.
